The pool, spa and authentically Australian landscape project needed to unite with the contemporary house design and blend with the rural urban setting. The pool is seen as an extension to the residential space while the landscape works harmoniously with the modern architecture- indoor and outdoor space are at one.

The original garden layout featured a small dam that struggled to fill with water and fast became a mosquito breeding ground. Part of the challenge was to build a usable outdoor space, natural pool landscape and water feature that would bring back the frogs and wildlife that once enjoyed the original dam.

Harnessing the slope of the land and clever placement of rocks gives the illusion that a cascading stream and wetland area feed the water in the pool This intricate native landscape design was built to imitate a natural ecosystem filtering and capturing water run-off from the property and returning any overflow back to the storm water drains clean and free from excess nutrients.

The pool is surrounded by random stone paving and dry stone walls. These walls create tiered levels and expansive seating to enjoy the outdoor space. Masses of indigenous grasses and shrubs fill this garden bringing year round colour. One single 45,000 tank has been installed to keep water to the plants and lawns during the driest of times.

This native garden setting provides a classic twist to a modern Australian house and landscape. Rugged stonework, mass native plantings and a commitment to an ecologically sustainable wetland idea affords the owners the perfect place to enjoy the great Australian outdoors in their own suburban backyard.
