Caulfield South Primary School

RB Landscapes was excited to design and construct a play space for Caulfield South Primary School.
A play area, near the school's athletic track was dramatically transformed into a natural adventure playground, with sand, pebbles, mulch, and timber replacing synthetic grass.

Round timber decks with connecting boardwalks have been constructed around trees, and provide access through the space as well as an area for reading and games. A wetland/bog area allows opportunities for learning about wetland ecosystems and maintaining healthy waterways. Students can manually pump water up from an underground tank, using the water play pump, providing exercise and further learning around water filtration.

Large rocks form the edges of a sunken amphitheatre which can function as outdoor classroom or gathering area. Overlooking this is a grassy mound, with shady tree, for relaxation and reading.

Round log steppers of varying heights form the edge to the dry sand creek bed and blend seamlessly into the natural play area. Three storage bins have been constructed using the sleepers from the existing retaining walls, for students to collect and store natural materials.

From synthetic turf to an immersive nature play area, the finished landscape provides an abundance of opportunities for learning, exploring and engaging with nature.
