Balwyn 1

RB landscapes most celebrated garden, this Balwyn masterpiece combines both oriental and Australian themes to national acclaim within a stunning formal and informal urban landscape. The client brief of this suburban oasis centred on relaxation and entertaining but nobody anticipated the kind of national media attention this stunning RB Landscapes creation would eventually deliver.

Visitors to the front are swept into this contrasting garden with curved stone walls, random stone paving, artistic steel gates and a striking plant selection. Sculptural art pieces themselves, the steel gates were designed to imitate giant leaves and capture interest from onlookers passing by.

The existing front clinker brick fence was enhanced using curved wistow stone walling for an oriental touch. Advanced weeping maples and Protasparagus densiflorus 'Myersii' were specifically chosen to add contrast within this soft landscape.

Entering through a side walkway, the backyard showpiece commands attention. Upon arrival, ones eye is immediately drawn to the three large cascades at the back of the property. These cascades plummet down a living corten wall into a large pond purposefully designed to capture stormwater once the tanks have filled. Leaving the trance of flowing water, attention is then drawn to the many other delights of this Oriental Australian outdoor space:

  • Tilia japonica (existing - possibly the largest specimen in Australia)
  • Floating deck that frames the tree
  • Hanging wooden curved bed capable of holding up to six adults
  • Shingle screen for water tank privacy
  • Alfresco dining area with intricate exposed beam ceiling and curved cedar shingle roof
  • Corten paving
  • Wok centrepiece filled with succulents.
